Well, you asked my opinion, I suppose I am obliged to give.
Let me first say, you are pretty damn good. I like your color pieces, mostly. As far as generalizations in artists goes...
You are a Cat Rapist.
*COUGH* Sorry, I promised a friend standing right next to me that I would put that in. No, seriously though, the only generalization that you fall into is probably the sort of emo/anime category. And BTW, just making fanart of an anime you like doesn't make you a bad person. I am guilty of doing one Cowboy Bebop piece... suprised it didn't get more attention than it did, to be honest. But let me explain my generalization.
Emo, only because of the Dancing with the damned, and the generally darkish feeling of some of your art. I wouldn't even say emo, but I wouldn't say goth, either, so I'm sticking with emo. And anime... well, I think that is self explanatory.
Believe me, as much as I hate to admit it some times, I really am inspired by quite a few manga artists out there. Well, I suppose Yoshitaka Amano isn't a manga artist, but he is damn good. But I like Sanami Matoh.. um.. Kaori Yuuki... another one I can't remember the name to... My point is, you don't fall into these generalizations just by being inspired by something, or just by doing fanart of one series or another.
Well, there you have it. I kinda rambled there for awhile, sorry if it doesn't make much since... it is far past my bedtime, really. If you would like a better analysis as well as a full refund, feel free to leave a message with the secretary of my financial department, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Music: I don't get this current music thing. I really don't.
Not everyone listens to music constantly, but I have had Tommy Tutone's "Jenny/867-5309" and Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" STUCK in MY HEAD for the PAST DAY AND A HALF.
Why do some of us "artists" even continue? I'm just starting to work with digital media, I've had pencils in my hand all my life otherwise. And now there's this terrible stigma attached to anyone who creates anything remotely similar to the manga style. Personally, the thing that grips me most about it is not the cute shit, but the presentation of beautiful human bodies in dynamic motion - the human figure is truly fascinating and fantastic. Thats one of the reasons people have the simple skin they do, I think - no fur, scales, outer shell, etc. like anything else in nature to get in the way of graciously contorted joints or muscle mass. That and I've been DYING to tell the short story I wrote, "Infestation," but if I'm putting it on an art site I want it to be at least visual. There's fictionpress.org or whatever for just writing, though I do acknowledge good writing as art. Then again, if you post you own illustration to a story, it certainly should be on both sites. Well, screw the stigma. I guess, I HOPE what matters is the effort put into something.
I finally figured out how to work the gimp, which you may or may not have heard of, but I downloaded the other day. Google the gimp. Even if you have photoshop. The gimp may or may not be better for you, but it's ENTIRELY FREE. And the equivelant of photoshop. Use the gimp even if you have PS, simply to encourage the use of GOOD FREE SOFTWARE. Now I won't have to waste all this acetate film anymore - the gimp helps me do neat, effective toning. God bless those good souls who made an effective FREE tool for all of us "artists" who didn't want to waste their money on an expensive equivelant. All right, I'm done ranting. (Free.)
